Counterfeiting Intelligence Bureau

Counterfeiting is one of the fastest growing economic crimes worldwide. It threatens the economies of developed and developing countries alike, damages new investment, and increasingly endangers public health and safety.

Technological advances mean counterfeiters have become more sophisticated. Today, a huge range of items are counterfeited, from clothing and pharmaceuticals to car parts and agrochemicals.

The Counterfeiting Intelligence Bureau (CIB) was formed in 1985 as a specialised bureau within ICC Commercial Crime Services.

It also provides an overview on current topics, news on new product protection and anti-counterfeiting techniques, and details on the latest initiatives and enforcement strategies.

Accompanying articles explain the activities of counterfeiters, referring to and showing where applicable, examples of the products they have produced and highlighting the differences between these and the genuine article.

Counterfeiting Confidential allows members to index, store and cross-reference cases for their own use. It also enables organisations to use the information as a means of warning others that may be vulnerable within the business and need to know what to look out for.
