Four persons armed with guns and knives boarded a tug and barge while underway. They took the crew hostage tied their hands and legs and secured them in the toilets and messroom. The perpetrators transferred the barge's cargo into a tanker. Before escaping they damaged communication and navigation equipment and stole crew and tug cash and properties. The incident lasted approximately 8-10 hours. The Indonesian authorities are investigating the incident.
