Duty AB on routine rounds onboard an anchored product tanker noticed a boat tied up to the anchor chain and alerted the bridge. The AB sighted a robber approaching him and retreated into the accommodation and secured the doors. Master raised the alarm, SSAS activated, distress message sent, patrol boats informed via VHF, crew mustered and ship’s whistle sounded. Upon hearing the alarm, the robber escaped. Two patrol boats responded to the calls and searched the area.
